Flight of the Bumblebee

Years ago, in their drunken ignorance, a group of arrogant scientists decided that based on their size, shape, and their tiny wings that flight was impossible for bumblebees. Today, girls of size are often judged in the same way.

Truth be told, Bumblebees CAN and DO fly. Just because first glances and assumptions seem to point to one rule, one explanation, one scientific "law" with concrete proof doesn't mean that it is the truth. The bumblebee has a different structure, a different way of flying than their lighter, more amply winged counterparts.

And I, in the same way, took flight. Just as my coach, Susan Kane, described in her book, through many stories of many woman in many Danskin Triathlons, I too spread my wings and flew across the finish line.
